Ludwig van Beethoven woke up at dawn and took much care in preparation of his breakfast. His morning dose of coffee would contain precisely 60 beans which he usually counted one at a time. After breakfast, until about 2 pm to 3 pm, he devoted himself to composing music. Occasionally, he may have taken a break to walk outdoors, which boosted productivity and creativity.

Around midday, Beethoven would eat dinner with a glass wine. After that, he would embark on a long, energetic walk, which carried over into the late afternoon. He always carried a pencil and sheets of musical papers in his pocket so he never missed the chance to record any inspirational musical thoughts. As the afternoon faded, he often visited a tavern to read the day’s newspaper.

Summertime evenings were frequently spent with guests or at the theater, however, in winter, Beethoven would stay indoors and read. Supper was often a simple meal, such as soup and any leftovers from dinner. After supper, he enjoyed a glass of beer and some tobacco.

Beethoven seldom composed music in the evening and retired to bed by 10 pm.
