John D Rockefeller rose at 6 am and begun the day by reading the newspaper. At 7 am, he strolled through his house and gardens before sitting for breakfast at 8 am. He developed the habit of giving a dime to each new employee and a nickel to every veteran. Breakfast usually finished at 8:45 am and Rockefeller played a game of Numerica, a form of solitaire, while he digested his food. He arrived at work at 9:15 am and spent an hour replying to his correspondence. From 10:15 am to noon Rockefeller hit the golf course for a few games.
After some rounds of golf, Rockefeller showered and cleaned himself before lunch which was typically served at 1 pm. He played a few more games of Numerica from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. After eating and playing Numerica, the American business magnate kicked back on his coach while his mail was read aloud to him. In the late afternoon, he spent 2 hours between 3:15 and 5:15 motoring and then rested for an hour at 5:30 pm.
From 7 pm to 9 pm, Rockefeller ate dinner and again practiced the habit of playing Numerica. If he was joined by guests, they would listen to music and socialize between 9 pm to 10 pm.
Rockefeller slept from around 10:30 pm to 6 am, when his routine started all over again.
